About Madhubani Art
Madhubani paintings are a traditional Indian folk art form originated in the Madhubani district of Bihar and practised in the Mithila region of Bihar, India, and parts of Nepal, famous for their bold lines, vibrant natural colors, and intricate geometric patterns that leave no empty space.
Historically created by women on freshly plastered mud walls and floors during rituals, festivals, and life-cycle events like weddings.
Madhubani painting received its Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2007.
